St. Cattwgs Church llanmaes

St. Cattwgs Church llanmaes

St. Cattwg’s Church.

Llanmaes, Vale of Glamorgan, CF61 2XZ.

The ancient parish church of Llanmaes (‘Sacred’ Community in the Meadow) is dedicated to St Cadoc (Cattwg the Wise), the sixth century Celtic saint.  The present building, Norman in style,  dates from early in the 13th century,  1234 but was constructed on a much older foundation - possibly as early as the 5th or 6th century. In spite of its great age, the church has become well known in recent years for a wedding that did not happen, namely, the wedding of the fictional Gavin and Stacey from the television series of that name. You cannot help but be drawn into something rich and deep in this site. You are transported to something big and rewarding!
